	Conference

	An annual conference is hosted by institutions or associations in different countries. The language of the conference is the language of the host country along with English. Some form of translation is provided for keynote sessions. There can be separate paper presentation or symposium sections as well as poster sessions in English and in the language of the host country.

		Building a Community of Researchers: Children at the Heart of Research – 2012, Singapore
		The 13th Annual Conference was held from July 20 to 22, 2012 in Singapore. The theme of the conference was “Building a Community of Researchers: Children at the Heart of Research”.



		Evidence Based Practice in Early Childhood Care and Education: promoting professionalism in the field – 2011, Kobe, Japan
		The 12th Annual Conference was held from July 30 to August 2, 2011 in Kobe, Japan. The theme was “Evidence Based Practice in Early Childhood Care and Education: promoting professionalism in the field”.



		Early Childhood Education in a Changing World -- 2010, Hangzhou, China
		The 2010 annual conference was held in Hangzhou, China on July 25-27. The conference theme was "Early Childhood Education in a Changing World."



		Towards Unity Amidst Diversity in Early Childhood Education --2009, Quezon City, Philippines
		The tenth conference was held at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines on July 26-28, 2009. The conference theme was "Towards Unity Amidst Diversity in Early Childhood Education."



		Educating Young Children in a Knowledge-Based Economy --2008, Bangkok, Thailand
		The Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association held its ninth annual conference in Bangkok, Thailand, July 6-9, 2008. The theme of the conference was " Educating Young Children in a Knowledge Based Economy." We recognize that early childhood education encompasses knowledge. Examining early childhood education in a broader and complex scope will help us further our knowledge and practice in the field, in order to meet the needs of supporting young children’s development in a fast changing world.



		Re-Thinking Early Childhood Education -- 2007, Hong Kong, China
		The eighth conference was held in Hong Kong, China on July 4-7, 2007. The conference theme was "Re-Thinking Early Childhood Education." Understanding and examining early childhood education in a broader and complex scope will help us to further our knowledge and practice development in the field, so as to meet the ever changing need of supporting young children's development and learning in a fast changing world.



		Early Childhood Education for Social Competency and Global Citizenship -- 2006, Seoul, Korea
		The seventh conference was held in Seoul, Korea on July 26-29, 2006. The conference theme was "Early Childhood Education for Social Competency and Global Citizenship," which reflected the increasing needs for fostering children's relationships with others as well as a sense of global community in early childhood.



		Understanding Individual and Culture Differences Among Children -- 2005, Taipei, Taiwan
		The sixth conference was held in Taipei, Taiwan on July 15-18, 2005. The conference theme was "Understanding Individual and Culture Differences Among Children."



		Innovations and Identities: Shaping Better Worlds through ECE -- 2004, Victoria, Australia
		The 2004 conference was held at the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on July 16-19, 2004. The conference theme was “I nnovations and identities: shaping better worlds through early childhood education.”



		Fostering Peace-Loving Minds in Young Children-- 2003, Seoul, Korea
		The 2003 conference was cancelled in direct response to the outbreak of the SARS epidemic.



		ECE in Cultural Contexts -- 2002, Shanghai, China
		The 2002 conference was held at the East China Normal University, Shanghai, China on July 23-25, 2002. The conference aimed to provide a forum for exchanging the experiences and sharing understanding achieved by scholars in developing cultural sensitive early childhood education.



		Growing Together -- 2001, Christchurch, New Zealand
		The 2001 conference was held at the Christchurch College of Education, Christchurch, New Zealand in July 11-14, 2001. The conference theme emphasized "Growing Together".



		Inaugural Conference -- 2000, Kobe, Japan
		Inaugural conference of the Association was held on July 25-27, 2000 in Kobe Japan. The main theme of the Inaugural Conference was the "Coming of Age" of early childhood education in the Pacific area.
